uses
The Ava double-needle syringe is designed for reconstituting and drawing medication into the syringe through a wide-bore (18-gauge) red needle attached to the syringe. For injection, the second needle, with a gauge appropriate for the syringe volume, is substituted and provided separately. In 15% of injections, the needle tip may be damaged by striking the vial or ampule bottom when passing through the vial’s rubber stopper. Any damage to the needle tip can cause pain, irritation, and minor bleeding after the injection, with the severity depending on the extent of the damage. When injecting combination drugs such as penicillin, contact between the needle tip and the vial’s rubber stopper or bottom can dull or damage the needle. Drawing thick medications or powder mixtures may clog the needle, leading to slow or leaking injections from the syringe nozzle, and can prolong the injection time. Drawing medication with a separate, larger-gauge needle and then switching needles prevents these issues. Additionally, for intramuscular injections, the injection needle should be changed after drawing the medication to ensure it remains clean, dry, and sharp.
